Another successful tour!
Slikamilina would like to thank Mark Hobson and Gaye Adams for starting our year off nicely. We had a great group of 14 who got along really well together and seemed to be laughing all day. We had some really nice weather with only 2 rainy mornings… perfect time to do some finishing work on the balcony. I wrote a daily journal, which you can find on our blog, and which now has photos as part of it. Please take a look at our workshops for the Autumn and think about joining us! Sretan Slikanje! (Happy...

May 9, 2013 It was an early morning, with a 6:30 breakfast start so that we could be on the ferry at 8am. We arrived in Orebić at 8:20, stopped at Bella Vista for coffee at 9:30 and arrived in Cavtat at 11am after having to stop for several one lane road works. Everyone took their luggage to their rooms and we were on the bus and heading back to Dubrovnik but 11:30am. On our way to Cavtat, Tomi and I both noticed that the road leading into Dubrovnik’s old town (Stari Grad) were closed, which meant that we had to drive back to the main...

May 8, 2013 It is a beautiful sunny day today! A perfect way to end our time on Korčula. We packed up my car and then everyone walked to the marina to catch the water taxi to Vrnik. I was not on the island with everyone as I had to make an unscheduled trip into Korčula, so I am writing what was told to me at the end of the day. Once on the island, a few people went back to the same location they had painted from on the previous trip, while others found new locations. In the afternoon, the wind picked up a bit and some were forced to...

May 7, 2013 It was another rainy morning and so Gaye did a pastel demonstration on the front balcony while Mark did a cloud demonstration on the other side of the balcony. We stayed there until lunch and then a small group headed back into Korčula for some picture taking and shopping, while others painted or napped. We had grilled fish on the BBQ tonight, and I am always amazed at how much flavour it has compared to the fish I can get at home.

May 6, 2013 Happy Birthday Randy! The weather looks to be similar to what we had yesterday. The oil painters are still going to go out in the field but the balance are going to do some finishing work on the front balcony. And what a successful morning they had! Infact we were thinking that if the afternoon cleared up that we would go over to Glavica to paint vineyards but the consensus is to stay put. Over lunch the rain started to come down quite hard and we were worried about the oil painters as they had decided not to work under the...

May 5, 2013 We have finally made it to Korčula! The weather is a bit iffy but is suppose to clear up this afternoon. We started our day in Korčula with a Filigree Jewellery demonstration by Seba Dizajn. Doka’s family had been making Jewellery for generations and now it is his turn. After the demo, everyone had time to themselves to wander around Korcula and take pictures. We would reconvene for lunch at 12 and then painting would commence. The oil painters and Andrea decided to paint before lunch and found a spot down along the...

May 4, 2013 Today we are heading to the island of Badija and then Vrnik in the afternoon. Our mode of transportation today is by boat and Stijepo is waiting for us in the marina. We piled my car with everyone’s stuff and then everyone had a nice little walk around the bay and met us at the boat. It is about a 20 minute boat ride to Badija and Mark brought out his harmonica as we moved towards our destination. The pine trees along the shore of Badija look a bit like the trees that the Group of Seven paint but behind them is a 14th...

May 3, 2013 Žrnovo, which is located inland and has no water or boats is our destination today. This will be more of an architecture day today. There are landscape vistas but this old town has lovely alley ways and deserted buildings at every turn. We arrived at 9:20am and Gaye started the day with a colour combination class…. everyone enjoyed and benefitted from her instruction, even Mark I then took Mark and Gaye on a 15 minute tour around the village to find locations to paint. Mark found his first and then Gaye hers,...

May 2, 2013 Today we are going to Račišće…. not an easy word to say with “ch’s” and “sh’s” but fun to practice. From Lumbarda, Račišće is about a 30 minute drive. It is a lovely drive along the coast through several small villages. The village of Račišće surrounds a small bay, with lots of small fishing boats, 2 churches and a statue of the previous Pope, John Paul. After some discussion, everyone headed toward the churches, which are side by side, and the oil painters focused on the small church while...

May 1st (National Holiday in Croatia) The morning started with Poppy just about to start picking sea urchin out of Ardyce’s foot. But what they do here is to soak the affected area in olive oil and the spines just “float” out to the surface. Ardyce applied some oil and in minutes one spine came out. She left the oil on for the balance of the day and by dinner several more had come out. It is better then digging around in your foot with a needle! Mark and Gaye decided to stay in Lumbarda to paint today. So we started out with...
