Born in Chicago, Susan Blackwood comes from six generations of artists. Her family history has been traced back to Rembrandt’s parents. In 2003, after a 32-year career as a watercolorist, she switched to oils. She now teaches both mediums in the same workshop.
In 2011, Blackwood and her husband artist Howard Friedland, as art ambassadors, were the guests of the Chinese Government for three weeks of painting and exhibitions of their work. She has also traveled, painted and taught extensively throughout the world in France, England, Italy, Portugal, Wales, Spain, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, including three years 1975 – 1978 in Pakistan where she taught art at the Lahore American School, maintained an active studio and produce three solo exhibitions of her paintings.
Her works are in the collections of: American Express; the French Consulate of Lahore, Pakistan; Anheuser Bush; the Sonoran Desert Museum; and others. She is a featured artist for Publisher: Somerset Fine Art
Susan’s paintings have won numerous awards at National and International Exhibitions and Museums. Her most outstanding Award to date is The Best of Show Award at the American Women Artists National Juried Exhibition 2010 in Dallas, Texas. Susan just been elevated to SIGNATURE MEMBERSHIP in the prestigeous Oil Painters of America Society, quite the honour.
