Holy Hot Batman!

Ok so it has been really hot here in Lumbarda, Korcula, Croatia, 35 to 40 degrees.  I arrived July 26th and it has been sunny and hot ever since, which after 3 months of rain in England, I should really be happy about but here is the thing….

My apartment does not have air-conditioning… nor does my car…. and well I am not going to an office so no AC there either.

Holy Hot Batman!

It has never occurred to me that with all the air conditioning in my life, that my body has always had the opportunity to cool down.  Now with no AC, I find this heat exhausting!

My sister is laughing at me as usually she is the one that is the “puddle”, but her house in Kingston, Canada has no AC, nor does her car, and although her office has AC, she is in some sort of pocket and her area is warm, so she is not finding this heat troubling at all.

Holy Hot Batman!

So what does one do?  I’ll be honest, I have not found a solution yet but here are some thoughts:

1.  Stay out of the sun from 10-4pm.

2.  Swim in the morning and in the late afternoon…luckily the sea is cool.

Holy Hot Batman!

3.  Drink lots of fluids… they say to drink warm fluids in heat but I am not convinced.

4.  Buy a fan

Holy Hot Batman!

Well that is about it…. does anyone else have any ideas??? I would truly love to hear them Holy Hot Batman!

Until later, I will sign off… Hot and bothered (and not in a good way!) from Croatia.

Heat acclimatization takes a while. When I was working on the railroad as a track maintainer, it took all summer to become adjusted. That was 3 months. You are right on all accounts mentioned – however, I believe that it takes quite a bit of time. yes – water, and lots of it – worked for me. I also wore loose fitting, light coloured clothing, and a hard hat! The day ended and I cycled to the beach. On the muggy nights, I went barr-naged while in my apartment and slept outside. I am not suggesting either. But the heat is not friendly. Snow and cold can be beat. heat will suffocate you and this causes panic. Please do consider a tour through Iceland instead:

I grew up in a house with no A/C in a tiny town that got really hot in the summer, well over 100 degrees f. If we had to go out we would take cotton bandanas and soak them in ice water and tie them around our necks. My friend Susan and I were painting in Cinque Terre, Italy in July a few years ago and we also experienced 100 degrees plus heat and no A/C, so we revised the cold bandanas trick. It helped. P.S. here in Northern California it has been over 100 degrees F for 8 or 9 days and the air is full of smoke from four forrest fires…yuk but at least we have A/C!

    Hi Sandy,
I remember my mom had one of those neck bandanas… I think she whould wet it and put it in the freezer and then use it while she was gardening.
I cannot imagine painting in July in Italy… I know how hot it is in Croatia at that time of year… it is why all my tours are in the spring and fall.
I am sorry to hear about the forest fires… we are also experiencing fires here on the island of Brac and around Dubrovnik… they have not had rain here in 2 1/2 months!
Thanks for commenting and I look forward to further comments.

lol, yes Iceland might be an option… I have always said I would rather be cold then hot, as you can always warm up :)
