Korcula Town – Sept. 6, 2012

Posted by on Sep 8, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

It is a little of an over cast day today but still a bit humid. We set off for Korcula at 9am and to start our day we went to Seba Dizajn for a short demonstration on filigree jewellery making.  Doka is the filigree expert from Albania and his wife Ruth is from New Zealand. Filigree is a delicate kind of jewellery metalwork made with tiny beads and or twisted threads (it often suggests lace), dosage usually of gold and silver, soldered together or to the surface of an object of the same metal and arranged in artistic motifs. Tom in the meantime set up for a demonstration along the restaurant...

Lumbarda – Sept. 5, 2012

Posted by on Sep 8, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

We awoke to rumblings in the sky… would it rain today? Well at 8:45am we got our answer as the skies opened up and it started to pour! Silvana felt that it could rain all day so we decided not to go to Racisce but stay on the front porch and work on paintings from previous days.  If the weather cleared we could make a decision later.  Not much else to do but smile and paint, patient right Bev? Tom started with a critique before doing his demo that looked out over the bay to Lumbarda. By noon it was a lovely day but we decided to stay where we were.  Some stayed at Lovric , unhealthy...

We also had confirmation that Susy’s luggage would arrive today at 1pm! My Dad arrived at 8:45am to pick up the art supplies and the group walked into Lumbarda to meet our boat taxi in the marina.  Stiejpo was there, as always, on time. We packed up the boat and off we went with Stiejpo driving and showing us his paintings… during the winter months...

Zrnovo is the destination of the day.  Zrnovo is about a 15 minute drive from Lumbarda and is one of the locations that is not on water. There are two parts of town, ampoule Prvi Selo (First Village) and Postrana (upper portion).  We went to Prvi Selo to the centre where there is a church inside of a church.  Infact, medications as the story was told, the outer church had started to be built to increase the size for the local population, but the communists came along and put a stop to building.  So now the original little church remains standing inside of half built walls. Our morning...

First morning on the island and we organized breakfast for 7am.  It may have been a bit ambitious as the first person showed up at 8am 🙂 No worries, dosage breakfast was broken up between 8-8:45am, and with everyone ready to go by 9am, and to head into Korcula. Tomi, dropped us off by the Konzum supermarket and we headed off for a quick tour of the old town (Stari Grad).  Lots of pictures were taken of the old homes, narrow streets, laundry lines, lounging cats, and views of the mainland across the water.  We ended up in the main square infront of the Cathedral and stopped for a quick...
